Singing Joan's Praises

Thirty years ago, my grandfather, the comic songwriter Benny Bell, suggested to Joan Rivers that she record some of his classic songs, such as "Take a Ship for Yourself," "Home Again (Without Pants)," "Shaving Cream" or one of dozens of other novelty ditties he produced between 1936 and 1979.


I just stumbled across the letter that she sent to him in response. While she turned him down, she did so in a most sweet and amicable way. I thought you might like to see it. Here's here letter:
